Why are North Americans going to Ecuador for dental care?

Recently, our team saw an interesting segment on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah about Americans flocking to border towns in Mexico for dental care. The small town of Los Algodones, Mexico, across the border from Yuma, Arizona, has hundreds of dental offices that primarily service patients who are tired of the ever-increasing prices of dental care in the United States. But North Americans are not only heading to Mexico! The countries of Costa Rica, Peru and Ecuador are also seeing a rise in visitors from North America who are interested in dental tourism.

What is dental tourism?

Dental tourism (also called dental vacations or dental holidays) is a subset of the medical tourism sector, which involves individuals seeking dental care outside their local healthcare systems and may also be accompanied by a vacation. Dental tourism is growing worldwide as technique, material, and technological advances spread rapidly, allowing dentists in developing countries to provide dental care at significant cost savings when compared to their peers in the developed world.

Many patients from North America wonder and worry about the quality of dental care outside their own country. Dr. Victor Carreño of Manta, Ecuador, quickly puts patients' fears to rest with his compassionate care and experience with the North American dental care system. Dr. Carreño worked in private practice in Denver, CO, competed a postgraduate residency at the University of Puerto Rico, and received his Master of Science in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the University of Manchester. All of the dental work provided by TopDental, including implants, fillings, crown and bridge, and bone and membrane grafts, utilizes top-quality North American and European materials, so you can be sure you are receiving an identical product at a fraction of the price.

Why is Manta, Ecuador the perfect place for dental tourism?

Manta, Ecuador is gaining the attention of tourists and expats from all over the world for its perfect coastal climate and 13 beautiful beaches in a mid-size city of about 300,000 people. Manta has seen a huge amount of investment and development in the last decade with beautiful luxury high-rise buildings, the modern Mall del Pacifico that overlooks Playa Murcielago, while still maintaining a laid-back atmosphere. Manta is also the perfect spot on the Central Ecuadorian coast to explore the quaint beach towns to the north and south. It would be difficult to choose a better spot than Manta to enjoy and explore between dental appointments!
